The other day we went to this really nice engagement party and I realized...I think it's the only engagement party I've ever been to. We didn't have an engagement party, and I honestly haven't been to many weddings, so I was at a complete loss. I googled "do you bring presents to an engagement party?" and got mixed results. I decided the best option was a card and a bottle of wine, you can never go wrong with a bottle of wine (unless they don't drink, but that was a risk I was willing to take).
Well we got a bottle of wine but Target didn't have any wine bags and I didn't really want to bring a naked bottle of wine...hence this tutorial: The Five Minute Burlap Wine Bag. This probably took less than 5 minutes, and probably doesn't really warrant a tutorial. But oh well..here you go anyway :)
Look at how nice it came out!
So I started with my bottle of wine. We got House Wine, because we love it (I really prefer white House Wine...it's heavenly).
And I have a ton of burlap (mostly for our wedding) but occasionally I find other projects for it. Basically I'll probably have to get more burlap closer to the wedding.
So I started by measuring the wine bottle - it's about 10" around.
Eeesh..I'm going to have to start taking better care of my nails/cuticles with this new camera that picks up all the details!
Then I measured my burlap. I made it 15" tall (tall enough to cover the bottle and fold down a few times).
By 13" wide. I wanted it to be a little loose around my bottle, and gave myself some extra fabric since I still needed to sew off the edges. Then I folded the 13" wide burlap in half (so that my new fabric piece was 15" tall by 6.5" wide) and sewed along both 15" sides and one 6.5" side making a pocket.
Action shot!
Here's my pocket. I went ahead and sewed even down the side that was folded over (so technically didn't have to be sewn) because it just made a nicer edge and looked a bit more uniform).
Then I turned it inside out and put my wine bottle into my sack and folded down the top edge a couple of times.
Wrap it up with a ribbon and you're good to go! It only takes a couple of minutes to make and I really think it classes up a bottle of wine It's not perfect and won't last forever...but it's gift wrap so it really doesn't need to be. Enjoy!

Love how simple and classy this is!
ReplyDeleteThis will be perfect to wrap around bottles I will use as centerpiece flower vases for my daugher's western-themed party! Thanks for the step-by-step instructions with pictures...the only way I can follow directions!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a super cute idea for gift giving. For those of us less crafty, you can purchase burlap bags online that will fit wine bottles. Then you can add your ribbon or whatever you like. Who doesn't love getting wine?
